Am I making any Vitamin D? Helpful hint!

Recently, as part of my yearly physical, I requested to have my Vitamin D levels checked. I assumed my levels would be pretty good between my supplement intake, teaching an outdoor Boot Camp Class a few times a week and walking the dog:-) My levels were OK but not optimal.

Answering a questionnaire on skin color, BMI, age, where you live and how much sun exposure you get on a daily basis gives us a good estimate on the recommended supplementation needs according to your responses but testing your blood is imperative. I recommend this take at home test from the Vitamin D Council. It seems pretty economical and expedient. Please visit my Vitamin D Website to get started with the Vita D quiz.

How much skin are you exposing?

Several years ago I was diagnosed with skin cancer. I contributed my fair European skin and many years of water skiing to too much sun exposure. After my surgery I gave up doing triathlons as all the swimming, biking and running would expose me to lots more sun all the time.  I used sun screen religiously and kept my skin protected all the time, till I started reading more and more about the importance of Vitamin D.

Vitamin D is a nutrient the body produces in response to sun exposure. Simply put, people aren’t getting as much sun exposure as they used to. In turn, people aren’t getting enough vitamin D, and vitamin D deficiency is so common in the 21st century, that researchers are calling it a pandemic.

Now, I’m re-thinking my time in the sun on a more regular basis and I trust my vitamin regimen to give me enough supplemental Vitamin D to keep me at a more optimal level.

Over 200 Million North Americans are Vitamin D deficient!

You can’t afford to be one of them. I’m on a mission and I need your help!

Did you know that in 2007, Time Magazine named Vitamin D one of the “Top 10 Medical Breakthroughs of the Year”? Or that in 2010, the Institute of Medicine tripled its recommendation for daily intake of vitamin D?

Vitamin D deficiency comes with extraordinary risks to human health. Fortunately, maintaining healthy vitamin D levels protects you from some of the most common and costly medical conditions, and represents one of the most simple and affordable ways to support overall health and longevity!

Recently, several of my close friends have been diagnosed with cancer. What they had in common at the time of diagnosis was a very low level of vitamin D.

Besides supporting my friends through prayer, nutrition information, and helping with family needs I kept thinking if only there was more I could do to help get vital information out to people on a topic that not many know about.

I’ve decided to dedicate the month of May to educating as many people as possible about the importance of optimal Vitamin D levels.

That is where I need your help. I’d like to personally let 100 people take a Vitamin D quiz and fill in a Health Questionnaire to establish a HQ score( Health Quotient). I’ll provide feedback for each of them free of charge.

Please help me get the word out and share this with your friends. The website tinafusser.TheVitaminDStory.com is full of valuable vitamin D information and you can also take the test there. There is no cost or obligation to buy anything!

Knowledge is Power. Please take the test at tinafusser.TheVitaminDStory.com

Enjoy Fresh Eggs!

Do you like to eat eggs? Have you ever wondered if your eggs are fresh?

My neighbor keeps chickens and I feel most comfortable grabbing the fresh eggs right out of the chicken cube. It will be helpful to check the expiration date on your egg carton. If you are not sure, you can do the water test.

You may wonder why eggs go bad and I found out that there are almost 20,000 tiny pores in egg shells. If tiny bacteria have set into the egg, they release gasses as a waste product and therefore the egg floats. So if it floats it means that bacteria has set in and the egg is bad.

Enjoy your eggs fresh and in moderation!
